Ryan McArthur earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University, where he performed with various bands and orchestras and won the Large Ensemble Division of the National Trumpet Competition in 2017. He continued his studies at the University of Houston, earning a Master of Music in Performance in 2022 and a Doctor of Musical Arts in 2025.
At the University of Houston, Ryan performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and chamber ensembles, and served as Assistant Director and Teaching Fellow for the Jazz Orchestra. During this time, he was also a member of the university's small trumpet ensemble that won First Prize at the 2024 National Trumpet Competition.
In addition to maintaining an active performance schedule in the Houston area and teaching private lessons, Ryan serves on the faculty at Lone Star College–CyFair and University Parks, where he directs the jazz ensemble and teaches trumpet lessons and music appreciation.
